When it’s 100 degrees in the shade, the last thing you want to do is heat up your kitchen while making dinner. Fortunately, there are hundreds of great ideas out there for keeping cooler while working hard over that hot gas grill. Let’s look at our favorite tips and recipes for staying cooler while making dinner on the hottest days.
Gadgets to Keep You Cool
Here are five fun gadgets to keep you cool while you’re at the BBQ:
1. Have you seen New Air’s Oscillating Outdoor Misting Fan? It’s designed to be inside or outside and mists up to 500 SQ. ft. This is a must-have for your patio!
2. Step two is to pick up the FlexiFreeze Ice Vest. This is, literally, a vest filled with ice. What intelligent Nevada or Arizona resident wouldn’t want one of these?
3. Wear a hat designed for the Australian Outback. Check out Tula Hats that are rated to 50+ UPF. Lightweight, with air vents built into the top, this is a comfortably fitting wide brimmed shade bringer that’s a must-have for desert dwellers.
4. Long term residents of Arizona and Nevada will tell you placing a cool towel on the back of your neck is the best way to keep from overheating in the desert. The Alfamo Cooling Towel is a nice option when grilling or doing anything outside. Or, if you have an old handkerchief, use that instead.
5. The final thing you need to keep you cool when grilling outside this summer is a refreshing beverage. We like to make fruit cubes to put in our ice water. All you need are some washed berries, like blueberries or strawberries. Grab a couple ice cube trays, and fill each cube section with the fruit and water. Freeze them and plop them in your water glass. After drinking the water, which will have a pleasing hint of berry, you can eat the crunchy berries at the bottom of the glass. Delicious!
So those were our top tips for beating the heat outside while working the BBQ. The next section looks at some of our favorite recipes that won’t add to the heat in your kitchen.
Easy to Prepare Recipes for Hot Weather
When it’s an Arizona scorcher, it’s going to be tempting to order pizza or just go out. You probably can’t do that every day, so here’s one easy to make a salad to go along with that burger you’re grilling. Here’s to eating healthy – and keeping your kitchen cooler.
Summer Corn Salad
While the recipe calls for fresh corn on the cob, that will require you to boil the corn on your stove, which is a hot and steamy process. Instead, we replaced it with canned corn, which was still absolutely delicious.
3 cans of corn (not creamed corn)
¾ cup cherry tomatoes – halved
4 tablespoons pine nuts
4 tablespoons finely chopped fresh mint
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
3 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and pepper
Serve cold
