If your air conditioning unit is no longer cooling your house off the way it should be, there could be a number of reasons for this. There may be a problem with anything from its thermostat, to a dirty air filter, to a condenser problem. And, depending on the age of your unit, it may just be time to say goodbye and replace the unit altogether. This is especially true if the air conditioner is between 10 and 15 years old.
Whatever you need, you can count on Ambient Edge to deliver. Our number is, or you can send us a message on our website. Whether you need a repair or a replacement, our well-versed team can diagnose the problem within minutes and give you advice on what your next possible steps should be.
Reasons Why Your Unit Is Not Cooling the Air as It Should
No one expects to turn on their air conditioner and get hit in the face with a wave of warm air. This is especially undesirable if you’re in the middle of a heatwave. Here are some possible reasons as to why your unit has stopped blowing out cooled air.
Check Your Thermostat
This may sound silly, but sometimes the simplest answer is the right one. Has someone adjusted (accidentally or otherwise) the dial on the thermostat? Your unit may be blowing out warm air because it has adjusted to a warmer temperature. Generally, you want to set your thermostat to a temperature that is lower than the temperature in your home.
Another thermostat issue is that it might be set to “ON” rather than “AUTO”. When the thermostat is in the “ON” position, this means that the fan is set to blow air out nonstop, not that it needs to actually cool the air it’s blowing out. Set the thermostat to “AUTO” if it’s in the “ON” position.
Dirty Air Filter
People are often surprised to learn that a dirty air filter in an air conditioner can cause more harm than they think. A machine that is clogged with dust and debris not only creates a health hazard, but it also struggles to work as well. This is a drain on the machine itself, as well as your utility bill. Cleaning the air filter allows the cooler air to get through, and easier. Plus, it saves you money in the long run on repairs.
Also, cleaning the same filter time and time again is not enough. You also have to replace your filter every 90 days, 60 if you have pets. After these 60 to 90 days have passed, and even with regular cleanings, the filter simply does not help the machine run as efficiently any longer, and it’s time for a replacement.
If you find it a struggle to keep up with regular maintenance for your air filter, Ambient Edge offers a preventative maintenance contract. When you sign up for one of these contracts, you agree to allow us to visit you annually to check on your system to ensure that everything is running well. You can also ask us to stop by every 2 to 3 months to change the air filter if it’s something you don’t think you’ll be able to keep up with.
Improper Installation
If you’ve only recently had your air conditioning unit installed, and you’re already experiencing issues with it cooling off your air, then this may be the result of a shoddy installation. Or, if the installation itself is not the issue, your technician may have simply under- or overestimated the needs of your home.
In other words, your unit may be too big or too small for your home. With Ambient Edge, you’ll never have this problem. We perform a full analysis on your home before we ever even begin the installation process. We want to make sure you’re comfortable and happy with your installation before it’s too late, or too burdensome, to change it.
Outside Condenser Issues
If you have a central air conditioning unit, the reason why you’re not receiving cooled air may have something to do with the outside condenser. Do you regularly maintain the property around the condenser? Overgrown grass and weeds can grow into and around the condenser, interfering with its ability to do its job.
And even if you have the most weed-free property on the block, the unit is still outside and, as such, will regularly build up debris from dirt and leaves. You should be cleaning your condenser unit once a year to keep it free of potential blockages. You can also have Ambient Edge help with this by signing up for a preventative maintenance contract.
