A Liebert UPS is an Uninterruptible Power System. In this case, UPS has nothing to do with a fleet of brown trucks, and everything to do with keeping your data center, telecom, or testing lab up and running in the event of a brownout or total power outage. Manufactured by Vertiv Brands (formerly known as Emerson Network Power), the Liebert UPS product line provides all the backup power you need.
When every minute of downtime means lost revenue, you need a serious backup plan. According to a Ponemon Institute research survey, every minute of downtime in an unplanned data center outage can cost an average of nearly $9,000 in lost productivity, equipment replacement costs, lost revenue, and damage to reputation, among other costs.
You can avoid an unplanned outage due to a power failure with a Liebert UPS system. These systems supply immediate power in the event of a power failure. This allows your critical systems to keep running continuously, even in the event of a city-wide blackout or natural disaster. Keep your Liebert thermal management system running to ensure your IT equipment doesn’t overheat, compounding your problems.
Online UPS
A Liebert UPS is an online UPS, making it more dependable than either an offline or line-interactive UPS. An online UPS is ideal for mission-critical applications such as data centers. This type of UPS continually recharges the batteries, so if the power goes out, backup power is instantly available, with not even a second of downtime. No need for switching.
The Liebert UPS products contain switching devices which work together to transfer the load from the bypass line to the UPS inverter output, and back again when required. This is instantaneous, with no power flickers.
Batteries are sized to your power requirements. More batteries won’t give you more power capacity, but they will give you more run time. When selecting your UPS, you want a system that is scalable for future power capacity. The power capacity of the UPS is the maximum number of watts it can provide to all the connected equipment. This is called the “full load.” If you get a UPS system that is not powerful enough for your application, it will shut down if the load exceeds its power capacity.
This is the most common cause of a UPS failure. Not the equipment itself, but the fact that it is not properly sized for the power needs of the data center. You never want to run your UPS at 100%. Running at 80% is a good buffer for some UPS systems. Some Liebert UPS systems have operating efficiency at 99%, due to the new Dynamic Online mode.
